Trevor's Big Kid Bed!

Last weekend, Trevor got a big kid bed!  He went through a phase of screaming and climbing/jumping/falling out of his crib at bedtime recently.  After getting through that lovely phase, he was back to sleeping well in his crib again, but was always so excited about climbing into Austin's and Sarah's beds whenever he had the chance.  We decided to go ahead and get him a big kid bed, but ran into difficulty fitting the furniture into his room.  He has the smallest of the 3 kids' bedrooms and his crib fit well with his dresser/changing table when it was his nursery, but changing the crib out for a bed (which is much bigger) posed a problem.  We needed to take out the wide low dresser and get him a taller one.  Austin has a little bit narrower bookcase and a taller dresser that would fit well in Trevor's room (and Austin's room has some space to spare).  While Grandpa came over for "donut Saturday" and played with the kids, I moved some furniture around and figured out that we could just swap Austin's dresser and bookcase with Trevor's and fit everything in the room!  We headed to the kids' furniture store (Totally Kids - such a fun store!!) and picked out a new dresser for Austin (since Trevor's wide one will go into our closet for additional storage and Austin's will go in Trevor's room).  Then we stopped for some lunch out at the kids' favorite restaurant, Noodles.  After lunch, we went to the mattress store to buy Trevor's bed!  We got home and put Trevor down for nap for the last time in his crib while we I ran out to get new bedding (dust ruffle, mattress pad, pillows, etc) and got everything washed and ready to set up!

Daddy caught a picture of Trevor's last sleep in his crib.
He has to go to bed with 3 bee-bees (cloth diapers) and his green blanket (1 of 2 acceptable versions).  Lately, he has also been insisting on holding his "gold doubloons" from his Jake and the Neverland Pirates toys whenever he goes to bed.
He looks so big in his crib now!
Then we got furniture moved around and the bedding set up.  Austin enjoyed helping!
The bed frame and bedding was the easy part of assembly.  The bed rail took me about an hour and plenty of choice words of frustration before I realized that I had a mix of parts from Sarah's single white bed rail and Austin's double blue bed rail.  I eventually found the white rail in the storage room to go with the 1-sided assembly parts I was trying to connect to the blue rail.  Eureka!

Trevor was excited about hanging out on the bottom shelf of his "new" bookcase.

And...Ta-da! Big kid bed!
You may recognize this as Austin's bedding set.  I really wanted to get Trevor his own bedding set and make him a cute coordinated room, but I had a beast of a time trying to find a cute quilt that was good quality and worked for a toddler (but not a toddler bed size).  While looking for bedding for Trevor online, Austin saw a really cool solar system bedding set that he liked, so we decided to get Austin a new bedding set for his birthday and transfer his really cute car/trucks/trains/planes bedding to Trevor.  Sorry 3rd child...the hand me downs continue!  I tried to get your your own stuff...I really did!
Trevor was so excited when we let him come in and see his new room!
 He climbed right up...
Flopped down on his pillows...
And snuggled up with his blankets.
Austin and Sarah were excited to celebrate this big day with him!
And here is my sweet baby boy sleeping in his big kid bed the first night.
(No, I didn't turn on the lights to take a picture - my camera has a night portrait setting and he didn't even stir.)

I was a little sad taking the crib apart for the last time.  I can't believe my our little doodlebug is getting so big!  He needs to stay little a while longer. Mommy's not ready for my babies to grow up! Maybe we can move to Neverland!

Speaking of Neverland - Halloween is coming and the kids are excited about their coordinating costumes!
