A couple weekends ago, we enjoyed a trip to a local apple orchard to pick apples!
Before we headed to the orchard, Theo was in his carseat on the lawn when Trevor walked up in front of him and stood there staring down at him, then kept saying, "Talk to me. Talk to me." I guess being the youngest, he doesn't really understand yet that babies can't talk back much.
Ready for a fun family day!
Off to the orchard...
Nanny, Auntie Michelle, Uncle Brian, and Theo came with us.
The kids love pulling the red wagon.
And riding in it...
The reason we chose to go to Emma Krumbee's Orchard was because they have raspberries to pick. Despite checking the website before going for the picking schedules and calling the "crop hotline" multiple times (without any mention of berries or apples on it!), we got there to find out that none of the kinds of apples we were hoping to pick were available for picking right now and they weren't allowing picking raspberries either! I was disappointed, but they said that the frost got the bushes. However, when we passed the raspberry bushes on the way to the apples, they were FULL of ripe delicious berries! I don't understand and I was disappointed. I let the kids pick a few berries and chow down on them right away (I know, I know, I didn't wash them!).
On down the path to the apples...
Tractor stop!
We picked 2 kinds of apples (unintentionally, but it was hard to tell which tree was which kind right where we were). The kids all had fun picking out which apples to pick and reaching high and low ones (sometimes with a boost for help).
We stopped at the little cafe for a treat and then headed home.
I had stopped off at home after Sarah's dance lessons that morning, but before heading to Austin's football game, to put some dinner in the crock pot. We got home to a yummy smelling meal of beef carnitas. Despite not getting to pick raspberries, I had some raspberries in the fridge from my own raspberry garden in the backyard and I made a yummy baked raspberry custard and heated up an apple crisp from the orchard bakery for dessert. Yum! Great Auntie Trish came over for dinner and had some fun playtime with Trevor and his dinosaur.
After dinner, we relaxed and watched the Notre Dame Football game on TV (ND beat Purdue) and then exhaustedly fell into bed after a long but really great family day!
Other random fun lately...
Barnes and Noble was doing a series of story time gatherings about the book "The Day the Crayons Quit" which the kids have enjoyed reading when we got it from the library in the past.
Trevor makes an awfully cute blue crayon!
Austin is a great reader and we do our best to have books around for him to read. He has been really enjoying the "My Weird School" series, but we came to a couple that were not available at the library, so I downloaded them on my Kindle from our local library e-loan. He thought reading on Mommy's Kindle was pretty cool.Daddy finished working at the Renaissance Festival booth for our school volunteer hours, while Mommy took the kids to Church. That week, we had a pancake breakfast after Mass and the kids loved it!
We have had some ups and downs with weather, but try to make it to the park when we can. Trevor enjoys the swings.
Our garden has been producing quite a crop lately...
We have been getting about this much every 2 days or so (for reference, that's a 16 oz sour cream container about 2/3 full - not bad!).
Usually, Sarah and Trevor eat them up quite quickly!
We found the kids' play pirate patch recently. Trevor is really into "Jake and the Neverland Pirates" right now, she he thought it was awesome to wear the pirate patch.Coming up...
I posted about Trevor's 2 year old birthday party, but was waiting to do his 2 year old update for when his photo shoot pictures were available. We had to delay a bit because he was sick on the day of his originally scheduled photos. Now the photos are done, but the disc broke in the mail, so I'll put those up (with an update of what he's up to) when I manage to get the photos. The previews look great!
Also, Austin has been playing football and I've been collecting photos and videos each week. His last game is next weekend and I'll put together a post about his football season after that.
