Since the arrival of our little Trevor, it has been a busy and eventful week! He has been a delightful snuggly little guy, but following his really easy delivery, Mommy has ended up with some random medical issues over the past week needing attention, testing, and even separation from baby Trevor. Ugh!
We left off with the blog on the day of Trevor's birth...we'll pick it up from the next day.
The kids came to visit after breakfast Friday morning and we got to go home from the hospital that afternoon.
Sarah getting some snuggle hugs.
And trying out putting her finger in his hand so he'll hold on to her.
Sarah did a good job holding her baby brother and was not so shy about it this time.
Snuggles with Nanny.
Totally content.
What a little snuggler!
We headed home on Friday afternoon, when he was about 36 hours old. We stopped off downstairs at Mommy's clinic so everybody could meet Trevor on our way out of the hospital. I was feeling great and had such an easy recovery, I couldn't believe how well everything went. Trevor had a bit of jaundice when they checked him in the hospital, so we popped in to clinic on Sunday on our way to church and I checked his weight and bilirubin. His jaundice was nice and low and he had gained almost 5 ounces since hospital discharge 2 days earlier. Nice job little man!
Here he is in his carseat when we arrived home from the hospital on Friday.
In this photo, I think it looks like he's playing air guitar.
Thumbs up! This being home stuff is pretty cool!
Gramma and PopPop got him a really nice new swing and he definitely enjoys it.
Snuggling in the bouncy chair while big brother and big sister take a bath. He loves to suck his thumb and is actually pretty good for his age at getting it in there and keeping it there.
Sleepy boy.
His favorite thing to do is lie on his tummy on Mommy or Daddy's chest. He can sleep for hours this way and is totally relaxed.Austin LOVES to hold him and is really pretty good at keeping him stable and happy while holding him.
Ignore me in this picture...tired Mommy still in jammies and barely awake yet. But look how sweet little Sarah is. She is excited for her turn to hold Trevor.
We got an adorable cookie bouquet from the Cronks.
And Steve's work sent over this cute little fire truck bouquet.
Austin and Sarah have thoroughly enjoyed the cookie bouquet!
Michelle and Brian popped over for a visit before heading out to Dublin for the Irish game.
Trevor's second bath (his first bath at home)...he was NOT a fan!
He was much happier after being snuggled up in his towel. He does not like to be naked and he screams for diaper changes and getting dressed.
Random photos of my cutie little one...
Sarah watching him and snuggling up close.
So exciting being a big sister!
Wide awake!
Sleepy little bundle. After a very long night up with Trevor until 5:30am, we figured out that he will only let us put him down in his pack and play if he is swaddled, but has his arms up by his face or out of the bundle. We have had much better nights since I bought a couple SwaddleMe swaddlers.
Random good morning smiles I caught on my iPhone.
The drama this week came when, on Tuesday afternoon, I started having abdominal pain in my right upper quadrant (just under my ribs on the right side). It stuck around and on Wednesday morning, I went in to see my doctor. This was already rough because it was the only time during Steve's 2 weeks off that he had a work meeting to attend, so I brought all 3 kids with me. It would have been fine except Austin and Sarah decided that Wednesday was a great day for their attention seeking misbehavior to begin. It was a rough day! My doctor felt that my symptoms and exam were consistent with infection, inflammation, or blockage (like gallstones) of the gallbladder and that I would likely need surgery to remove my gallbladder. I headed home, called my mom to come over to be with the kids, then headed to the hospital for labs, then back to the hospital later for an ultrasound. Those actually looked pretty good, so I was put on a low fat diet (which is good for not stressing out the gallbladder) and scheduled for a different scan on Friday. The catch with the scan is that it is a nuclear medicine test, meaning that they inject a radioactive tracer into my bloodstream and watch it with a scanner to see how the liver takes it up and excretes it into the gallbladder. This would be fine except it meant that I couldn't go within 6 feet of Trevor and had to pump and dump my breast milk for 24 hours. That's a really tough thing to ask a mother of a 1 week old to do! The good news is that my HIDA scan was normal, I don't have to have surgery, I'm feeling better, I get to eat normally again, and I'm back to snuggling and feeding my baby boy! I do, however, now have a horribly sore ear and had to go to urgent care today to get some ear drops for an external ear infection (like swimmer's ear, except I haven't been swimming). My Mom has been my hero this week - coming over to play with the kids, help take care of Trevor, and bringing dinner over almost every night! What a blessing to have her so close by!Also during this busy week, we had Back to School Night at Austin's school and helped him find his classroom and his desk, meet his teacher, and figure out how to get from the bus to his classroom. He is VERY excited for school to start! Then we had Trevor's newborn photos taken on Thursday morning. We were going for the sleepy, posable newborn look, but Trevor was wide awake for 3 hours during the photography session and didn't want to cooperate. Hopefully we got some good shots anyway. As soon as photos were done, we headed to clinic for Trevor's circumcision. He had pooped and peed on the photographer and me probably about 8-10 times during the photo shoot, so I figured there was no way he'd pee on Dr. Bob. He, of course, peed all over right before the procedure.
So in summary, we had a busy week! We're hoping the next week slows down a bit. Newborn photos and first day of school photos to come soon!
