Birthdays, Bottles, and Baby Checkups

We've been staying busy as I reach the end of my maternity leave. We have been blessed by warmer spring weather this March and have enjoyed playing outside with the neighbors, taking walks, and going to the park. Sarah typically hangs out in her carseat in the stroller while Austin runs around playing, rides on the sit and stand part of the stroller, or rides his tricycle (which he's pretty good at now).

We also got to celebrate March birthdays with family this past week. Here are some photos of the past couple weeks.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Sarah was decked out in her "Lucky Charm" outfit covered in shamrocks (with one on the butt too). This is an Austin hand-me-down and fit her pretty well for St. Patty's Day.

In anticipation of me going back to work, we bought some bottles and had Sarah give them a try. Here is Daddy giving Sarah her first bottle. She played around with it at first...But then she figured it out pretty well.We started with 2 oz just to see how she did. She figured it out pretty quick and sucked down all the milk with no problem. I topped her off afterward, but next time we gave her a bigger bottle.

Austin tried to grab the bottle away from Daddy and shove it in Sarah's mouth. We encouraged him to feed his baby doll instead, and he did great sitting next to Daddy and feeding his baby doll.

Some other random fun photos...
Austin likes to make goofy faces in the mirror and watch himself...Sunglasses are apparently very exciting.Deciding which Veggie Tales song to dance to.
Dancing!
Sarah is smiling socially now (not just with gas as babies do right away as newborns). In an attempt to catch her with the camera when she's smiling, we have captured some funny faces and smiles in various stages.

We spent last weekend at Nanny and Grandpa's house to celebrate the March birthdays and to have another appointment with our realtor to check out more houses. When our house sells (hopefully soon!), we're hoping to be ready to pounce with an offer on a house in the Twin Cities, so we're maintaining our top choices list (and adjusting as they sell while we're waiting).

Here are the birthday people. Nanny, 3/21; Brian 3/17; Grandma Dorothy (Grandma Dot to Austin) 3/25.
Michelle enjoying some playtime and snuggle time with the kids.Dad and crew cooked a turkey dinner that was quite delicious. They had to put up a tape line at the entrance to the kitchen to keep Mom out of the kitchen.
I tried out a new recipe I got last week for raspberry custard. It was delicious...and looks delicious too.
In honor of Grandma Brintnall...the turkey bag as a hairnet! Brian's mom sent him his favorite cake via overnight mail...complete with a picture of Brian as a kid on the top and 25 candles.

Sarah had her 2 month checkup yesterday. She is doing great and growing well. She is now 13 pounds, 6 ounces (6.06 kg, 95th percentile) and 23.4 inches long (59.5 cm, 85th percentile). Her repeat ultrasound on 3/17 was completely normal with no cyst found. My doctor went back over our prenatal ultrasounds with the OB/GYN maternal/fetal medicine doc and the radiologist and since we don't see the cyst on the scan now and it was there prenatally, we're just guessing it was an ovarian cyst and it went away on its own. She's perfect and doing well.

A few other photos from the last week.
Austin also had screening this week. On Tuesday he had his Early Childhood Check-In Screening. He was pretty distracted and resistant to participate in some of the screening measures, but did fine overall. The verdict is that he is developmentally appropriate. He does need to have his hearing and vision screening done later, though. He didn't tolerate having the headphones for the hearing screening on for longer than about 2 seconds and he was way too distracted by the toys from the other screening tests to participate in the vision screening. My rambunctious boy!

That's all for us right now. Pray that the activity on our house for sale picks up. Our favorites in the Twin Cities are starting to sell while we wait for our house here to sell. Match Day has come and gone, so we've got nothing left to hope for in terms of bringing more buyers to Rochester.
