This past weekend was crazy busy! Trevor's baptism was on Sunday and we had family from far and near gather to join us for the celebration. The Cronks came up from Texas and we had fun showing them some Minnesota fall fun! I'll narrate with LOTS of photos...
Lately, Sarah is really excited about being able to hold Trevor on her own, and she actually does a pretty great job if she is sitting in a chair or on the couch with some support.
The kids recently got a book from the library about animals in Namibia called "dassies." It is basically a book mirroring the 3 little pigs, but includes these dassies being chased by an eagle. The eagle captures the first 2 dassies (in their house of grass and house of sticks) and takes them to his nest. What the kids got out of that was that they should make nests and keep their baby birds and eggs in their nests. I was feeding Trevor downstairs one day and it was awfully quiet upstairs, so Steve went to investigate. What he found was that the kids had made "nests" on the upstairs landing using every stuffed animal, pillow, and blanket they could find in their rooms. They insisted on taking their naps in their nests, but, as you can imagine, we were not particularly successful in getting them to actually sleep.Gramma and Auntie Diana arrived on Friday afternoon. The kids quickly swept them upstairs to the playroom and got a tea party going.
Trevor observed and tried valiantly to get his thumb in his mouth. He's getting a bit better at it.
Austin got to try on his new Buzz Lightyear costume and is super excited for Halloween! Here, Austin is wearing the Angry Birds hoodie blanket Gramma brought him while showing Gramma and Auntie Diana what Angry Birds is.
Trevor meeting Auntie Diana.
PopPop and Uncle Brian (aka Cubby) arrived on Saturday afternoon.
We all headed to Sever's Corn Maze and Fall Festival.
Sarah tried to pick up some heavy pumpkins.
While Austin wandered the field checking everything out.
Pirate Austin.
Sarah got a ride from PopPop.
Then into the maze...Austin had fun pointing the way and marking his map when we reached each letter progress marker.
Sarah showing PopPop where to go.
Trevor spent the entire time snuggled up and asleep in the Baby Bjorn carrier.
We didn't even get lost in the maze!
Austin had fun running on top of the hay bale maze...not exactly what they intended by making a maze, but definitely what most of the kids were doing.
Then we stopped for a snack. Fresh hot mini donuts! YUMMMM!
Then on to the exotic animal petting zoo.
Sarah was excited to see the baby giraffe.
Sadly, the poor giraffe was pretty spooked by the activity and the small enclosure.
Austin and Sarah got to feed some of the animals.
You have to use a spoon to feed the ostrich because they are very aggressive and strong...so you have to be careful if you don't want to loose fingers.
Feeding Llama Llama (but he didn't have any red pajamas).
The boys tried out the pumpkin cannon.
Playing in the old buggy school bus.
Then on to the Super Slide.
And Sarah decided to play on the little train while Austin went jumping on the giant bouncy pillows. When we got there, the weather was beautiful - upper 50s and sunny, though there was a bit of a cool breeze. We got through the maze with nice weather, but by the time we left, it was cloudy, windy, and in the 40s, so we were starting to get chilly.
The whole crew before heading home.
We got the kids cleaned up from all the dirt and dust they got into at the corn maze, then headed to the Mall of America to enjoy dinner at the Rainforest Cafe. We even showed Brian the amusement park (he couldn't believe there were roller coasters inside the mall!) and stopped at the marshmallow Peep store for Steve to get the Halloween Peeps he's been looking for. While walking around, we passed the Disney store and stopped to get Sarah some accessories for her princess costume. She now clunks around the house in princess slippers that light up, a Cinderella crown, and with a light up sparkly wand. We headed home after the mall and got the kids bathed before settling in to watch the Notre Dame football game. We let the kids stay up to watch the first quarter, but by the time we got them to bed it was 11pm! After the game, I stayed up late to prep food for the next day...baptism day!On Sunday, Trevor was baptized at the church we were married at. Diana and Brian are his Godparents.
Trevor was so good and didn't fuss a bit when he had the water poured on his head.
Deacon Al (who just happened to be a friend of my mom's) did the baptism. He did a beautiful job! After the baptism, he held Trevor for a few minutes and Trevor gave him a big smile.
Trevor with his Godparents, Brian and Diana.
Uncle Brian got LOTS of smiles!
Trevor with Nanny and Grandpa.
The "big" kids.
And the Fichtel "kids".
Michael took most of the photos at the baptism. Thanks Michael!
Auntie Michelle and Uncle Brian with their Goddaughter, Sarah.
Nanny with her sibs, Trish and Greg. Greg is moving away soon and will be missed here in Minnesota.
All the Cronks.
The Minnesota Brints
Then we headed back to our house for a yummy late lunch. I made 4 crock pots full of yummy soup. We had tortellini soup and corn potato ham chowder, plus a yummy salad, garlic bread, crescent rolls, and, of course, cake.Trevor was such a good baby all day! I couldn't believe how well he did with all the chaos and noise that happens when 20 family members gather in one place. For a little while, he relaxed in his swing and smiled at his reflection in the mirror on the swing mobile.
He also got to spend some time with Gramma and PopPop before we had to get them back to the airport on Sunday evening.
Overall, it was a wonderfully fun and busy weekend and we got to celebrate Trevor's baptism surrounded by loved ones. It has taken most of the week for the kids to recover from the skipped naps and late bedtimes, but they are still talking about how much fun they had.
