Memorial Weekend

Well, we spent much of the week at Nanny and Grandpa's house. We headed up Tuesday night, and Austin and Steve spent the day at Nanny's while I interviewed with another pediatric practice. Then it was home again Wednesday night, on call Thursday into Friday, then right back in the car to head back up to Nanny and Grandpa's for the weekend. Because of some swapping earlier in the month when I covered for a colleage that had to go out of town, I remarkably ended up with a whole 3 day weekend off! Woohoo! So we took advantage of the time off to spend some more time with family and friends up in the Twin Cities.

On Saturday, we attended a Minnesota reception for Mike Gunville and his lovely bride-to-be Jeanna celebrating their upcoming wedding in June at Notre Dame. We spent most of the time chasing Austin around, since he seemed more interested in opening and closing the doors of the church than actually attending the reception. He did take notice when I was holding Ann's little guy, John, though. Austin didn't like that too much and suddenly wanted mommy to hold him. We had lots of fun catching up with all the Gunvilles. It has definitely been way too long since I've seen them!

We tried to get a family picture...but Austin was too squirmy!
Austin did sit still long enough to enjoy some chocolate cake and milk.

We hung around the rest of the weekend and had fun playing at Nanny and Grandpa's house, the park, the lake, etc. Here are a bunch of pictures of the fun...

Austin going "boing, boing" in Grandpa's chair. Then hanging out in his jammies with his truck and blankie.Hiding under the kitchen table.
Helping Grandpa shave...

"Missed a spot right here, Austin."Austin's turn.Hammering some popped nails on the deck stairs.

"Pink juice" (aka baby lotion) after bath time...Grandpa's specialty.
Austin helping squeeze out the lotion.
All smiles as Grandpa puts it on his arms.
Still giggling while he goes for the legs.
Those dimples still get me. How cute!

Walking down by the lake with Auntie Michelle.
Stopping to pick some wild flowers.
Feeding the fish some bread crumbs."Don't fall in!"
Walking back with mommy.
Pointing out airplanes going overhead.

Nanny tried to get Grandpa's beer bottle away from Austin...
Austin thought it was hilarious, and he played it up for the camera while Brian and Kevin caught these shots on their iPhones.

Off to the park for Austin's favorite...swinging!"Higher, mommy!"Trying the glider with Grandpa.
Turning on and off and locking and unlocking Brian's iPhone...
"Cool!"

Napping with Nanny. He wanted to read to Nanny on his bed. He read her "If You Give a Pig a Pancake" (as you can see on the bed by his knees) and then promptly fell asleep (as did Nanny!).

Helping Nanny shop for groceries....with a cart just Austin's size.
Watch out, shoppers! He is definitely a student driver!
We spent the weekend with family, being thankful for each other and the gift of our freedom that the brave men and women in the military protect for us by sacrificing their lives in so many ways. We appreciate all you have done for us!
