April 15th brought a BUSY day for our Sarah!
We had record breaking snowfall on Friday night, all through Saturday, and into Sunday. We totaled well more than a foot of snow (on top of ice), which made travel very difficult. On Sunday morning, Sarah and I got up at 5am to get her hair and makeup done for her dance competition. We headed out with plenty of time to spare to make sure we could get to the Minneapolis Convention Center on time for her first competition of the year. Here is Sarah showing the winter wonderland just out the door as we headed out for the competition.
Sarah's team, the Petite Dream Girls (PDGs) from Center Stage Dance Studio, had a great first competition of the year at the Majestic Competition.
Ready for jazz - "Hold the Drama"
For her tap and jazz dances, we have a ponytail wig in their hair. We have to get the hair up in a very high ponytail, braid it and pin it into a hot dog bun shape, then clamp the heavy pony tail wig on the bun with the built in alligator clamp. We then (I kid you not!) zip tie it to their heads by putting a zip tie under the pony tail holder, wrapping it around the hairpiece clamp, tightening it, cutting the end of the zip tie, then hiding the tie in the wig hair. If you told me that at some point in my life as a mom I would be zip tying a wig to my daughter's head, I would have laughed at you. And yet, here we are!
They did a great job on their jazz dance and got a "high gold" score.
Some action shots the photographers caught of Sarah.
Ready for tap - "Hokey Pokey"

They did an awesome job on their tap dance!! The judges were dancing in their seats and gave them bonus points because they liked it SO much! They got a "platinum elite" score (the TOP score category) and placed 3rd place overall in their age group.
Last, but not least, Junior Production - "A Dream Is A Wish".
This is the first year that the petite teams are included in the production. They have an amazing production this year and the girls have had a blast performing it!

Her team is in blue and pink groups.

At awards, the Junior Production got a "Judge's Choice Award" for choreography, and also was declared "Grand Champion".
The judges took photos with the whole group.

When we left the Convention Center to race home for First Communion, it was still snowing like crazy!
Then home for First Communion!
Sarah got to wear Alexis's dress, veil, and shoes. We didn't have time to get Sarah in the shower to clean up her hair, so we washed all the make up off and left her low bun in her hair from production and just covered it up with her veil.
First Communion at St. Mark's
Sarah with some of her friends and classmates. To Sarah's right is her dance teammate Adalyn who also rushed from the dance competition to make it to First Communion in time.
Trevor was very excited that Auntie Trish was able to make it.
Sarah read one of the petitions during Mass.
Sarah receiving her First Holy Communion.
It was a much larger group of kids at this Mass due to the snow storm moving plans around.
We had our family back to our house for dinner afterward.
By 6:45pm, Sarah was pretty wiped out.
Her American Girl doll Molly got a Communion dress too!
It was a crazy busy weekend with record breaking weather, some dance competition excitement, and a very blessed First Communion!
We have dance competitions the next 3 weekends and are also hoping the snow melts soon so the soccer fields can open for Austin's team to start practices and games. Mother Nature is not cooperating this spring.
