Trevor's Preschool Class Field Trip to the Farm

Trevor's preschool class went on a field trip today to the O'Loughlin Farm here in Shakopee.  It is a working dairy farm and they host the preschoolers each year for a fun visit to the various parts of the farm.  I got to be a chaperone today and we had a beautiful spring day for our visit.

I was responsible for these 3 kiddos, and I was happy for only a 3:1 ratio because it was hard enough keeping track of these 3!
Preschoolers love riding the bus!
(and you can fit 3 little butts in the bus seat when they're this age - with room to spare!)
We split up into 4 groups and our group started in the dairy barn.  We got to see the equipment they use to hook up to the cows to milk them, the pipes the milk travels in to get to the tank, and where the milk is kept until the truck comes to get it.  The kids were holding their noses when we first went in the barn and the first "question" was a comment that the cows were stinky!
Then we headed into where the cows are kept.
The kids got some hands on time with the feed they give the cows.
The kids got to pet one of the cows, then we headed back out of the barn to the next station.
The kids got to climb up into a really big tractor!
Then it was off to the hen house, where the kids got to see the chickens, collect eggs, and pet one of the friendlier chickens.
An attempt at a class picture.
One of the kids' favorite parts was the big field of weeds in which they picked dandelions to their heart's content!  They all gave some to Mrs. Bauer, their teacher, so she was carrying quite the load of "flowers" by the time they were done.
Then the kids got to feed the baby cows their bottles. The baby cows are in their own little dome houses while they're young.
The kids got to end the field trip with ice cream cones on the lawn, then hopped back in the bus for the short ride back to the classroom.

Afterward, Trevor and I went to Target to get some milk and other groceries.  He saw a toy pirate ship in the toy aisle that he liked and it took a while to get him to move on to our grocery shopping.  As we walked away from that aisle, he said "Wow!  I was admiring that ship for hours!"  Ha! My verbose little 4 year old!  (This reminded me of the comments he made about how something was "astonishing" him.)
