Sarah's First Dance Competition!

Sarah is on a competitive dance team at her studio this year and this weekend was her competition debut!  She is on the Petite Dream Angel team at Center Stage Dance Studio.  This weekend they competed in the Majestic Dance Competition at the Minneapolis Convention Center.  Her team danced on Friday afternoon and performed their jazz dance and tap dance.  They did a fantastic job and we are so proud of Sarah and her team!

First, they had a dress rehearsal at the studio on Tuesday afternoon/evening.  The girls wore their costumes and had their hair done, but no makeup.  Here is Sarah in her costumes and with her team.

This is for their tap dance "Boogie in the Barnyard"
(my favorite part is the cow print shoes - the teachers drew the cow print on their white tap shoes with a Sharpie marker!)
Watching some of the older girls lining up to perform.

On Friday, the girls danced at 4:24pm for their first dance and we were supposed to have the girls there 1.5 hours before their first dance (around 3pm).  We carpooled with 2 other teammates, but we had to make it to the Convention Center, park, lug the giant duffel bags full of stuff into the dressing rooms, and get the girls all ready to go, so we left plenty of time.  I picked Sarah up from school before they headed out to recess, fed her lunch at home, then spent about an hour and half getting her hair and makeup done!  This Dance Mom gig is not for the faint of heart!  I will get better with practice, I'm sure, but it is still hard so far!

Ready to cheer for my girl!  I got a hand-me-down team t-shirt from one of the moms who had a girl on the Petite Dream Angel team in a previous year.
Ready to go!  Sarah in her hair and makeup and both of us in our CSDS attire!
Sarah ready to head out the door with her loaded Dream Duffel in tow.  She is very excited about her Dream Duffel and wanted to pull it herself in the parking garage, skyway, and Convention Center. The only time she'd let me move it was when we had to take the escalators.
In the car on the way with 2 of her teammates Adalyn and Reese.
Almost there!
We're here!
Our little ducks ready to go!

We had a little time to eat dinner, then got the girls dressed in their next costumes for their tap dance.  We had some costume issues when the bow and button on the front of the neckline on a few of their costumes fell off.  While one of the teachers quickly sewed them back on, the girls played games with their cute cow-print shoes.
 Hi cutie cowgirls!
Ready to take the stage!
Sarah posing with Daddy and Austin who came to cheer for her.
(Trevor was there too, but he was tired and was being a pill about taking a photo.)
 Excited about their first competition!
Award Ceremony!
The girls were having fun dancing and goofing off before the awards started.
They were in the "Mini Intermediate Small Group" level in the competition.  They got 2nd place for their tap dance "Boogie in the Barnyard" and were the Grand Champions for their jazz dance "Ducks Dance Too!"  They were very excited!  Here they are accepting their award banner.
Posing after awards with their teachers/choreographers, Julie ("Ducks Dance Too") and Lisa ("Boogie in the Barnyard").
It was a great day and the girls are excited for their next competition in 2 weeks!

We were so impressed with all our studio's teams, and we're happy to watch Sarah grow and learn under such amazing role models, teachers, and choreographers. We definitely picked the right studio!
