At 18 months, Trevor...
- is still tall! Trevor is 35.6 inches tall (99th percentile), weighs 26 lbs 3 oz (76th percentile), and has a head circumference of 18.8 inches (60th percentile) at his checkup today.
- wears 18 to 24 month clothes (the 18 month ones are starting to get small, but we have more of them than the 24 month winter clothes and the 2Ts are a bit big, so we're in a bit of a transition on sizes).
- wears size 4 diapers (just moved up to size 5 in his overnight diapers) and wears size 6 shoes.
- totally looks like his Daddy!
- sleeps well at night (when he's not sick) and still takes 2 naps during the day (most of the time), though he is starting to lose his morning nap when home with Daddy.
- is not as big an eater as Austin and Sarah were at this age (which may be why he weighs less than they did at this age). He currently loves bananas, bread, cheese, and sweets.
- walks, runs, climbs stairs (and can go down them, but we still supervise/help him with the stairs), plays with toys and puzzles and loves the kitchen toys, blocks, and cars in the playroom.
- loves to read stories with Mommy and Daddy and will also just grab a book and sit down and look through it on his own. He loves when big brother Austin reads to him too. His favorite books right now are: Wheels on the Bus, Winnie the Pooh books, Wherever You Are My Love Will Find You, Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See?, Llama Llama Red Pajama (from Auntie PiPi and Uncle Stephen), Baby Danced the Polka and Baby Beluga (both of which are Mr. Peter story time classics), Easy Street, and any of the little Target $1 bin Sesame Street books.
- has cloth diapers/burp cloths as his snuggle item in his crib, along with a plush Tigger and Eeyore and a green blanket he has become attached to. Still uses a pacifier, but only for nap time and bedtime.
- is quite mischievous! He can get into trouble in no time and we can't take our eyes off him for a second. For example, the other day, I put a cutting board on the counter top with a large sharp knife on the cutting board, preparing to cut an onion. I pushed the cutting board back so he couldn't reach it and went over a few feet away to the garbage can to take the outer part of the onion off to get it ready to cut it. I turned around seconds later to find that Trevor had pushed a kitchen chair over, climbed up on the chair, and was waving the large knife around! Yikes! (This marks the 3rd time we have caught him with a large sharp knife!). Then today, I went to the bathroom quickly and then was getting dressed in my bedroom before taking the kids to school. Trevor was playing in the cabinets in my bathroom. I asked Austin to close the door of the kids' bathroom when he was done brushing his teeth so that Trevor couldn't get into the kids' bathroom. Then Trevor ran out of my room and Sarah came in, so I asked her to go check where Trevor was and make sure the bathroom door was closed. Sarah reported that Trevor was playing nicely in the playroom and I asked her to make sure the bathroom door was closed. I come out literally about 1 minute later to find Trevor in the kids' bathroom with the plunger in the toilet and toilet water everywhere! Ugh! He also likes to throw random things in the garbage (things that are NOT garbage - like my phone) and pull things out of the garbage. Our attempts at childproofing have failed! This kid gives me gray hair.
- fell/climbed out of his crib last week. He hasn't done it since so we're hoping that it scared him enough to stay put since he's not ready for a bed yet, but we don't want him to hurt himself falling out of his crib.
- is talking a lot more! He says about 25 words. Among them are: Mommy, Daddy, cookie, Go!Go!Go! (whenever he sees sporting events, equipment, or Notre Dame's interlocking ND - that's my baby!), Bu bye (with a wave), cup, ball, Nanny, Bapa (grandpa), Uh oh, hi!, hello (usually while holding my phone to his cheek), hat, hot, cake, happy, no, Elmo, boo/peek-boo, cheese, truck, nana (banana), please, Nuk (his pacifier), acky/ucky (referring to things like the garbage can), Oww! ...and new ones every day.
- likes to scribble and color and is really excited if he can get a hold of Austin and Sarah's markers.
- is a generally happy kid and recently started saying "Happy!" and waving his arms up and down saying, "Happy! Happy! Happy!". Here is a video of him saying, "Happy!"
- is so expressive! He has so many facial expressions and seems to understand exactly what he's doing when he makes faces at us. Check out this video - I was trying to get him to demonstrate his newfound affinity for excitedly saying "Happy!" and he was not wanting to participate. The range of facial expressions he goes through in the mean time is hilarious (at least to me) and shows his goofy and mischievous personality.
Other fun lately...
Trevor loves to play with Austin. Here they are playing dinosaurs. Trevor makes a growling or roaring noise whenever he sees or plays with dinosaurs. It is too cute!
Trevor always wants to be like the big kids...
He got a pen and the pencil sharpener out of the drawer after he saw Austin sharpening a pencil to do his homework. He decided he wanted to do it too...but with a pen.
He will bring Sarah her princess shoes and try to get her to put them on his feet.
The kids enjoyed a bit of time out in the snow recently. We have had a LOT of snow and a LOT of bitter bitter cold weather! It feels like this winter will never end, but we did have a few nice days that weren't too cold or stormy, so we headed outside for some fresh air.
Trevor liked sitting on the sled, but didn't like it when it moved.
He was pretty excited about shoveling with a little shovel (although he had a hard time grabbing it with his mittens on). Hopefully his enthusiasm for shoveling continues when he is a teenager and can actually shovel off the driveway!
My babies have been feeling under the weather lately. Trevor started with a tummy bug a few weeks back, then after getting better from that, he later had a couple days of 103 degrees fever without other troubles. About a week later, Austin got sick with fever, sore throat, headache, body aches, and a nasty cough. He was out of school for a couple days, had 1 holiday day off and 1 snow day off, so only made it to school 1 day last week. By the weekend, the little kids had gotten it and Trevor and Sarah have had nasty coughs, runny noses, intermittent fevers, and overall crabbiness the last few days. Hopefully everybody will be happy and healthy again soon.
