We put on some pants that already had a hole in them, popped on his elbow and knee pads from his skates and went for it. I held on to the back of his seat and he got going, but within about 3 feet, he said, "Let go, Mom!" and he just sped away. He went down the street, stopped, turned around and came back again. For the next hour or so, he rode around like an old pro. He got a little bold at times and tried to do hairpin turns. Those got him off balance now and then and he had a few minor falls, but he was amazingly good overall at riding without his training wheels! We're so proud!
Here is a video of his first ride and then a clip from a few minutes later when he was riding all over the place.
He was so proud of himself as well. Whenever neighbors came out of their houses or cars for one reason or another, he would cry out, "Look at me! I'm riding all by myself! I'm doing it without my training wheels!"
By the time Sarah woke up from her nap, Nanny had come by to see Austin ride his bike and have lunch with us. Within about 10 minutes of Nanny leaving, Grandpa came over to play. We enjoyed the beautiful weather and took a walk to the park. After some playtime with Grandpa, we got the kids ready for naps and started the Irish game after tucking them in. Austin was thoroughly exhausted from his day of biking and took a great nap. Sarah, on the other hand, babbled and played in her crib for over an hour, before I finally gave in and got her out of her crib. When I went to get her, she had somehow managed to get her right arm out the head hole of her sweatshirt. Goofball! She came down and watched the game with us while Austin finished his nap.
Sarah was pretty cute in her new Notre Dame sweatsuit from Nanny and Grandpa.
And, of course, so was Austin once we got him out of his beat up pants from biking and into his brand new Notre Dame sweatsuit as well. Sarah loved declaring "Go Irish! GO GO GO IRISH!" and putting her hands up for "touchdown!"
Of course, trying to get her to do it on camera is another matter. Here's my attempt...
Of course, the day started with silliness as the kids spun themselves dizzy in the playroom...
tried to do somersaults...
and were generally goofy!
That's all for now. We're LOVING the gorgeous fall weather and are hoping it sticks around for a while. Our landscaping revamp project should be done this week and we're making good progress on the planning phase of our basement finishing project. Some day, life will slow down a bit, right?
