Austin's First Day of School 2011

Today was Austin's first day of school for the year.  He is in preschool again, but this time, he goes 3 days a week instead of 2.  He has the same teacher and some of his classmates from last year are in his class again this year.  He was SO excited for school this morning!
The kids have been a bit sick lately. Sarah had fevers and croup, but has been getting better.  Austin just got a little bit of a croupy cough over the weekend (very minor) but was otherwise fine and ready for school this morning.  When I picked him up, he seemed subdued, tired, and lacking the excitement he had shown when we dropped him off this morning.  In the car on the way home, I couldn't get much out of him about how his first day of school went. Then he complained that his forehead hurt.  I asked him if he got a bonk on his head and he said no.  When we got home, he was fussy and tired and we let him lie on the couch for a bit and got him some ibuprofen for his headache. He felt warm and just wasn't himself.  We made him some chicken noodle soup for lunch and he ate that OK, but then started crying and trying to bravely hold back tears as he told us his throat really hurt and he didn't feel well.  We got him settled on the couch with a blanket and pillow and turned on some cartoons.  I sat with him for a bit while Sarah finished her lunch.  Then Austin threw up all over himself, me, the blanket, the couch, and the floor.  Ah, the joys of sick children!  I scooped him up, stripped him down, and carried him up to the bath while Daddy cleaned up the couch and floor.  He felt much better after that and hung out on the couch for a bit until it was time for nap.  He took a good nap and was back to normal by the afternoon.  What a first day of school!  Everybody has been a bit under the weather lately, so we're all hoping to feel better soon.  Adventures in parenting continue.
