Labor Day Weekend

I remarkably had all 3 days of Labor Day weekend off, so we headed up to the Twin Cities for the weekend, anticipating that Baby Singewald may be arriving then. Alas, no baby yet, but we got to see Ann (and her baby belly), and we had a great time with our family!

We headed up on Saturday and had a fun day playing and seeing family. We even had a big family and friends Dominoes game after Austin went to bed for the night. Kevin and Keng, Michelle and Brian, and Kevin's friend Jonah and his girlfriend Chelsea came over for the evening. Michelle and Brian stayed through Sunday and Kevin and Keng came back over again on Sunday. Austin had lots of fun playing with his aunties and uncles!

We got out the pool on Sunday and Austin had a blast playing and splashing in the pool with Auntie Michelle.

Filling up the pool with Grandpa (or "ba-pa" as Austin calls him).

Throwing balls and watching them splash.

Austin loves the water!
The wind up....
And the splash!

Playing with Uncle Kevin on the pedal car Nanny got at the estate sale she helped Jenna with.
Keng, Michelle, Kevin, and Brian toasting marshmallows over the grill to make smores!

Playing at the park on Labor Day. This is the park for the elementary school I went to! Here is Austin pausing to give Grandpa a kiss before going down his favorite slide.

And pointing to airplanes! There were a lot of airplanes going overhead and these days, Austin is very excited about airplanes. Whether he is inside or out, if he hears an airplane (often before we even hear it), he searches the sky for it and points to it excitedly and says "air-pane."

At the end of the day, he got his very own kid-sized ice cream cone...but he didn't like it because he thought it was too cold. He doesn't know to say cold, so he uses "hot" for any temperature variation he doesn't like. He took one lick of the ice cream, said "hot" and made this face...

We headed home on Monday night and got right back into the swing of things on Tuesday morning. Steve and Austin attended their first class at the local ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) center, called PAIIR here (Parents Are Important In Rochester). They start by having parents and kids together in class and work toward having separate sessions for kids and parents. There are about 10 kids in class and the kids have age appropriate activities with 3 teachers to guide them while the parents have discussion time about parenting, etc. So far, it went well. Both Austin and daddy seemed to enjoy it, and will be going every Tuesday morning for this quarter. They also will be attending a Thursday morning playgroup through Mayo Families Connection and occasionally maybe the Friday morning PAIIR class. That should keep them entertained as the cooler weather creeps in soon.

Anyway, back to waiting for wonderful news to arrive. Baby Singewald should be arriving today, since Ann is being induced for pre-eclampsia. We excitedly await the news of his or her birth. We plan on heading back up next weekend to visit and we are so excited for Ann and Phil to experience the profound joy of being parents!

Please keep praying for Luke! He is a little trooper and is doing well with his chemo treatments, but he still has a ways to go.

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers:) Isn't it fun to see your kids interact with your mom and dad? I love watching them love their grandparents!
