Spring/Summer Update

It has been about 5 months since I updated the blog.  We have been a wee bit busy!   Here is a very long post packed with photos of what we've been up to.

Trevor played recreational basketball.

Austin hanging out at school. He has really enjoyed attending BSM so far!
Austin was recruited to the Knowledge Bowl and Quiz Bowl teams and they were featured in the newsletter for making it to the post-season competitions (for the 1st time ever, all 3 teams qualified).

Lots of work for me!  Clinic has been very busy and very short staffed, so we're working our tails off to take care of our patients!

Steve and I really enjoyed seeing "Come From Away" at the Orpheum this winter.

Trevor wants to do puzzles with Mommy when the picture is Pokemon, which he has really been into lately.

Austin got his driver's permit and started driving lessons with Mom!
We're still having a hard time getting him in for behind the wheel lessons with an instructor.
Highest Honor Roll for Austin!

Sarah baked about 7 different flavors of cupcakes for my clinic staff!
These were snickerdoodle flavor and were SO GOOD!
S'mores!
Chocolate raspberry

Sarah's winter band concert

Trevor did a science fair project about what food grows mold the fastest.
Trevor had dress up like a book character day at school and he looked awesome in his Sherlock Holmes costume!

Dance season hit!
(I have a LOT of dance competition photos because each competition and recital has professional photographers taking photos for me!)
Shamrock Shakes on the wait to Duluth for Sarah's first solo competition!
Sarah's ballet solo costume did not arrive in time for the first few competitions, so we quickly ordered a back up costume, not as beautiful as the original we ordered, but it got her through in a pinch!
Sarah's ballet solo was the Lise variation from "La Fille Mal Gardee"

Sarah with some of her teammates that travelled to Duluth for the competition too.

Applause Competition
First team competition of the year!
Production, "Everybody Dance Now"

Tap, "Hands Clap"
The neon green gloves were a surprise to the audience at the beginning of the dance and made a really fun visual effect!

Contemporary, "One Unending Moment"
This dance won 1st place at every competition!

Jazz, "Sensational"

The team accepting their big trophy.

Act 1 and Groove were solo competitions only for Sarah.
Some of her teammates had solo, duos, trios or small groups also in those competitions, but no team dances for these.

When not at dance...
We took the kids and Sarah's friend and dance teammate Ethan to see "Footloose" at Chanhassen Dinner Theater.

Went for some walks with Jenny and baby Adam.

Trevor is learning fencing! He loves it!
Trevor is the little guy on the right in this pic.
Trevor, creative as ever, makes all sorts of toys and outfits for his play time!

Sarah still loves sloths!  She made this sloth puzzle with me.

We enjoyed some time learning new board games over spring break!

Our Honda Odyssey died, which was very bad timing given how hard to find and EXPENSIVE cars are right now, but we managed to find a Toyota Sienna AWD minivan to replace our Odyssey.

Easter!
Ready for the egg hunt.

Austin is almost as tall as Steve and I now!

Next dance competition was KAR (Kids Artistic Revue).  The night before Sarah was due to compete her solo bright and early in the morning, we got a message from the studio that Sarah's original costume had finally arrived (after reordering it when the first one got stuck in customs for months!).  We bolted over to the studio immediately at 8pm to pick it up before the studio closed.  It was gorgeous!  So much better than the replacement costume we had been using thus far.
Sarah did a beautiful job and her solo teacher Casey got to be there to see her perform for this competition.

The competition was held at Northrup Auditorium on the U of MN campus. They have a very pretty area of columns along a stairwell leading up to the balcony. Despite the eye rolls from my pre-teen dancer, I got some gorgeous photos I am rather proud of!

Team celebration for Ethan's birthday at the competition.

Minecraft birthday for Theo.

Packing meals at Feed My Starving Children with the Shakopee Soccer Association.

Austin got his braces off!

Sarah made me a cake for Mother's Day!

Trevor has been enjoying playing goalkeeper for his soccer team this season.

Austin is playing on the U17 team and also has been refereeing in his spare time. The day his team didn't have games in the Shakopee Cup, he refereed from 7:30am to 4pm.  He was tired! (and very sunburnt!)

In between Shakopee Cup soccer tournament games, we raced over to the kids' piano recital. They all did a great job!

Trevor was George Washington for the "Night of the Notables"

Austin had his spring band concert, which also was the final band concert for Mr. Paul Keefe, who has been band director at BSM for over 30 years. He was also my band director when I attended BSM.
Sarah had her 6th grade band concert too!

Then back to more dancing...
Spotlight Dance Cup
Sarah had Nanny and Grandpa and her brothers cheering her on!

Ballet doesn't typically score very highly when compared to the other styles, so placement in the overalls is not common.  Sarah was the "category winner", meaning she was the top ballet solo! Great job Sarah!

The competition's Facebook story had video clips and photos of our team...
Lots of award for this team!

And last, but not least...recital!
She had 5 recitals. They started each recital with Production. 2 of the recitals, she had all her team dances as well.

Backstage fun

Sarah is such a little momma to the little dancers. At competitions, I would see her walking around with a gaggle of little dancers following behind her like ducklings following a momma duck. They would argue over who got to sit on her lap and whenever they see her, they run over and give her a hug! So cute!

Professional photos of Sarah in her costumes
I made a photo memory book for Sarah's team. I hope they like it!

I took Trevor and his school friend Malcom and Malcom's mom to "Diary of  Wimpy Kid" at Children's Theatre Company.

We had dinner at Nanny and Grandpa's and had some fun cousin time.

We're at that glorious age when we can just decide to go out to a show and our kids can stay home alone without us. We saw "Moulin Rouge" at the Orpheum on a whim.

More soccer for Trevor.

Sarah's team had a fun pool party

Father's Day cookout at the Chester's before Austin headed to his residential soccer camp for the week.

Sarah rocked her dance auditions and we went out for Cherry Berry treats to celebrate.

The dead minivan was finally hauled away. (It sat on the driveway for months!)

That brings us to the present!
Next up is moving all our furniture off the hardwood floors to get them redone.
