We were so busy getting ready for our big trip to Florida that I didn't get the photos from Austin's soccer and football seasons up on the blog! He actually missed his last football and soccer games for our trip. He had lots of fun playing both sports, but will be continuing on in soccer for the main traveling soccer season in the spring/summer. He has winter training sessions throughout the winter and just had his first basketball game of the season today. He will not be continuing on in football. Even though he loves the game, we decided as a family that he will not continue on to tackle football due to the injury risks (particularly the concussion risks) of football. He is fine with it (phew!). He's got plenty of other fun sports to pursue and he can still be a big fan and Notre Dame Football enthusiast!
Touchdown run!
Little football fan!
Austin's football and traveling soccer games often overlapped at the end of the season, so we would make a compromise to leave football early to get to soccer a little late (as long as it was a home game). Here you can see Austin's #39 soccer jersey showing through his football jersey and his soccer shin guards on. He's a busy guy!
This was Austin's first season in traveling soccer. It is a higher level of play and was a good challeng for him. He was used to being one of the best kids on the field when playing his recreational league soccer games, but now the skill level of his teammates and his opponents are higher and he has to rise to the challenge. The fall season is short and less intense than the spring/summer season is, but he has secured his spot on the highest team in his age group for the spring/summer season as well as this fall season. He has lots of fun and worked hard!
He continues with winter training and Futsal (an indoor soccer game on a gym floor with a heavier ball) over the winter months, then ramps back up into the main traveling soccer season in the spring/summer. We look forward to watching him enjoy the game and continue to develop his soccer skills. Now on to basketball games and practicing shooting hoops in the driveway until the snow comes!
