Trevor's 3rd Birthday!

Our little Trevor turned 3!
At 3 years old, Trevor:
- is growing taller every day (despite not being a very good eater). He has his 3 year old check up with Dr. Judy once school starts and our schedules at work slow down a little bit. I'll update his measurements after that.  (Update: on September 8, Trevor was 39 inches tall (82nd percentile), weighed 33.4 pounds (67th percentile), and had a BMI of 15.44 (30th percentile).)
- His favorite foods are macaroni and cheese, peanut butter and honey sandwiches, milk, watermelon, applesauce, and sweets or snacks of any kind.  (We do limit the junk foods, but he is pretty excited to eat them when he can!)  I asked him what his favorite food is this morning and he said "cake!"
- Is talking up a storm. He tells us stories and uses some pretty sophisticated words for a 3 year old sometimes!  He just recently started to be able to tell the difference between red and green (for a while, we wondered if he was color blind because he consistently couldn't differentiate those 2 colors).  He recognizes many letters and likes to play with letter puzzles and his "letter bots" toys. He loves to be read to.
- Has struggled with falling asleep well at bedtime and we have had to work hard at it, but he is doing a little better now.  He is just a kid that takes a long time to settle in and fall asleep. Recently, he's been asking, "Mommy, will you snuggle me?" at bedtime and I have been happy to oblige. I love my snuggles!  He does well for nap time, but still needs some encouragement to stay in bed and go to sleep. His "lovies" right now are still his cloth diaper "beebees" and he likes his green blankets (fuzzy blankie and monkey blankie) for bedtime. His favorite stuffed animals to sleep with right now are puppy (a little Dalmatian puppy), Cheer Bear, Carrots (a little white bunny), new this week, Rascal (a little raccoon).
- Has no interest in using the potty.  We're just waiting for him to show he's ready and willing. We've got the Jake potty sticker chart and a prize ready, but he's just not interested yet. We'll be excited to get rid of diapers (for the last time) whenever he's ready for it.
- Gives great hugs and kisses!  Before bed, he likes to give me Eskimo kisses, butterfly kisses, then a big smooch. He gives great squishy hugs too!
- Is very active and rambunctious.  He loves to run and play and wrestle with Daddy or Austin and Sarah.  He turns his feet in a little when running or walking and, whenever he falls down running, he always seems to fall right on his face/head.
- Is mischievous!  A couple weeks ago, he got out of bed and we couldn't find him.  We searched and searched and eventually found him in the dryer!  This kid is going to give me a lot of gray hair!
 - Is very into pirates right now - specifically Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Peter Pan, and Captain Hook.  He loves to play with Austin and Sarah (when they let him) and they often play super heroes.  He does a lot of pretend play with his figurines and pirate ships.  He also loves to play with his pretend kitchen - and steal Mommy's real kitchen tools, bowls, utensils, etc. to play with too.  He is always very interested in what Mommy is doing when I'm cooking and wants to push his chair over to climb up and watch.

Trevor has been more of a challenge for me as a parent than Austin and Sarah were, but we are growing together and it is so fun to watch him learn and grown and develop.  We love him so much and are delighted daily by his adorable little personality coming out.  He is a treasure and we are so blessed he is ours!

We had a birthday party for Trevor on his birthday day, Sunday August 23rd!  Again this year, we made a special birthday cake.  Trevor declared long ago that he wanted a pirate birthday and he stuck with that theme even months later.

We made "Bucky", the ship from "Jake and the Neverland Pirates".  Here's what "Bucky" looks like.
Work in progress...
Steve piped on the symbol on the back - Jake's sword, Cubby's map, and Izzy's pixie dust.
 The cake all done!

My little pirate. "Aaarrrrrrgh, matey!"
Here he is telling me, "You walk the plank!"
 Decorations for his party.
 Daddy with the Birthday Boy!
We recently found Steve's favorite stuffed animal from when he was a kid.  Sarah has taken him on as her own and got him involved in the party with a party hat and all.  Here are Sarah and Ricky Raccoon.
 Mommy with the Birthday Boy!
 Pirate mateys!
We loved having Auntie Trish join us for the party!
Time to open gifts.
Group hug!
Trevor was so excited about his first 2 gifts (Peter Pan figurines he asked for and Captain Hook's pirate ship, the Jolly Roger), that he didn't want to open any more presents.  We got him to open a few more, but then there was no keeping him from playing with his new toys.  We had to safe the presents from Gramma and PopPop for another day.
He loved his card from Mommy and Daddy because it had a crocodile that chomps his mouth when you open the card.  He has been really into the "tick tock croc" lately, so he thought this was great!
Playtime with new toys!  Our neighbors Barry and Tammy were able to pop over and join us for the evening. The kids had a blast playing with Tammy.
Cousin Theo had fun playing with the pirate ship toys too!
 Time for cake!
Trevor loved his cake and blew out the #3 candle up front right away.  He had to climb up on his chair a little higher to reach the candle on top of the crow's next on the mast of the ship.
He was so excited he started clapping!
Happy Birthday to our 3 year old Trevor!
