Trevor's First Birthday!!

Our baby Trevor is 1!  Trevor turned 1 on Friday and we had fun celebrating him with family on Saturday.  I can't believe he is 1 already!!  Where did the time go?
At 1 year old, Trevor:
- weighs 24 lbs 5 oz (71st percentile) - starting to get more lean (85th-95th percentile previously); height is 32.9 inches (99th percentile - still tall!); and head size 18.5 inches (68th percentile - the only one of our kids without a big head).
- wears 12 month clothes (and has the 18 month fall clothes ready, since he is starting to grow out of the 12 month ones)
- walks!  He started walking around 10.5 months old and is getting better and better at it.  He can walk across the room, but still is faster at crawling, so he often drops down and crawls instead of walking.  He walks more when his brother and sister aren't around to knock him down!
- loves to clap, give high fives, wave "hi" and "bye", and is starting to blow kisses.
- pushes the buttons on his toys to make them sing or play music, then dances!  He wiggles back and forth and smiles while he dances.  Too cute!
- giggles the most at his big brother!  Austin can do something totally normal and Trevor finds it hilarious!
- says "hi", "mama",  "mom", "dada", "baba", "nana", and "papa".  Loves to squeal and still makes growling noises.
- sometimes still turns his head side to side when he is excited.
- uses his hands and fingers well - finger feeds, uses a spoon (still quite messy, though), and manipulates small toys easily.
- loves to open the kitchen cupboards and particularly goes to the ones he's not supposed to get into.  He tries to pull heavy pans out of the cupboards.  He gets into the pantry quickly if it is left open, pulls himself up on the bottom shelf, and throws soup cans on the floor.
- is a climber!  He is now climbing on the fireplace hearth, the kids' rocking chairs, trying to get up on the couches himself, and can climb up Austin and Sarah's chairs at the kitchen table.  He climbs the stairs easily and will beeline for the stairs if the gate is left open by big brother and sister.
- has 12 teeth and eats more table foods. He is not a fan of baby food anymore and will eat some of it for Mommy, but almost none for Daddy. He just wants table food, so he eats a lot of what we are eating, just cut up very small.  He is doing well drinking from a sippy cup now.  He is getting milk from our stash of frozen breast milk and nurses only a couple times a day (morning and bedtimes, sometimes before nap).  He has pretty much stopped biting (finally!), except when he is really tired or overstimulated (like on a trip, etc.)
- sleeps well through the night and takes (usually) 2 good naps during the day.  Unlike his brother and sister, he doesn't want to be rocked or held to go to sleep. He usually just wants to be put in his crib and he'll go to sleep on his own.
- gives hugs and kisses.  Loves his Mommy and Daddy (though still definitely a momma's boy).
- is a sweet, lovable, smart, adventurous, mischievous, precious little miracle!  We are so blessed that he is ours!

On Trevor's birthday, we had a jumbo cupcake for him to enjoy on his actual birthday, since we were making the cake for the party the next day.
Big brother and sister helped him blow out his #1 candle.
He was hesitant at first, but Mommy gave him a little taste of frosting...
...and he started shoving bits in his mouth on his own after that.
 YUM!  Happy boy!
He then tried to get the whole thing in his mouth...
He even wanted to share with Mommy.
Happy Birthday, my baby boy!
Sarah met Daddy's old stuffed animal monster and was pretty excited about it.

Then Trevor opened presents from Mommy and Daddy, Gramma and PopPop, and Auntie Diana and Uncle Stephen.
He unwrapped this Llama Llama book, looked at the cover, and immediately held it closer to his face and squealed "HI!"  Then he proceeded to open the book and look through it, babbling away.
This book from Gramma and PopPop was a hit too...it is the Ten Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed story, and has little plastic poppers by each monkey, so you can push each one as you count monkeys and it makes a little click sound. All 3 kids were competing over who got to push the little clickers.
For a first birthday, Trevor actually did a pretty great job of tearing the wrapping paper off.
We got Trevor a little ride on pillow dinosaur toy that he enjoyed riding around the kitchen.
Once the kids were in bed, it was cake baking and decorating time.
We thought since this was the 3rd time we've made this cake (all 3 kids had the same Winnie the Pooh first birthday cake), it would be easy.  Unfortunately, I made the frosting too thin and had a beast of a time getting it to stay on the sides of the cake without dripping down and puddling at the base.  A few four letter words were uttered, I will admit.  It ended up OK, but just didn't look at sharp as the first 2 times we made it.  We were up until 3 am making it and cleaning up, but it was worth it for my birthday boy!
On Saturday, we had a party with family to celebrate Trevor's birthday.
He thought the balloons were pretty exciting.
 Happy birthday boy!
More presents...what a blessed baby!
Then time for cake!
Austin and Sarah were both fussy when they got their first birthday cakes.  I think they were more overwhelmed by the activity of the party.  Trevor was doing so great during the party and we made sure to have cake time before it got too late.  However, when he fell and bonked his face on the coffee table right as we were going to have cake, he started wailing and his lip was bloody and swelling up.  It actually was a minor cut and he calmed down pretty quickly.  We sang Happy Birthday and put the whole cake in front of him...
He was happy and smiley and quite interested in the candle.  He reached for it a couple times and I kept pulling his hand away from the flame.  I turned to encourage the big kids to come help him blow out his candle and he, of course, took that split second to reach for the flame again.  I turned around just in time to see him extinguish the flame with his finger and then look puzzled.  No burned finger or fussing, so I guess we're OK.  Mom of the year award to me - letting my baby play with fire!

He was hesitant at first...
He started licking some frosting off his fingers...
Then started to get a little more into it.
I took the cake off his tray briefly to cut him off a piece (since he had been able to eat the cupcake so much easier the night before), and he cried when I took it away.  However, I quickly had a piece of cake on his tray for him to go after and he immediately picked it up and tried to get the whole thing in his mouth!
Despite starting to get pretty tired, he thoroughly enjoyed it!

It is always such a blessing to celebrate with family!
Look how big I'm getting!
Story time with Grandpa and Uncle Brian before bedtime.

Other fun...
As I said above, Trevor is quite the climber now.  He climbs Austin's chair all the time and he knows he's not supposed to, so he will give me a cute little stinker face when he does.
We got fruit smoothies after swimming lessons the other day to get us through grocery shopping before we headed home for a late lunch.  Trevor snagged my smoothie and was sipping away at it in the shopping cart.  Little goofball!

This month has been a whirlwind!  We took family photos before heading to Ruttger's.  We'll be taking Trevor's 1 year photos later this week and I'll get the copies of the family photos then.  Stay tuned for a blog update with some great family photos!  Then it was a fun family weekend up north at Ruttger's, followed by a busy couple weeks of work and kids' activities, then on to Steve's birthday and fun with family on the St. Croix River.  This weekend was Trevor's birthday and Steve has been volunteering at our school's booth at the Renaissance Festival on the past couple Sundays.  This week is full of appointments, back to school nights, wrapping up this session of swim lessons, continuing Austin's football practices, and getting ready for school to start.  Life just never slows down!  School starts after Labor Day and Austin and Sarah are excited to start the year.  Austin will be in first grade and Sarah will start preschool.  It's hard to believe that this time last year, Trevor had just joined our family and Austin was heading off to Kindergarten.  This past year flew by!
