Trevor is 4 months old!!
The monthly picture in his rocking chair...
He's growing so fast!
Mommy's little monster!
He has the sweetest little face!
His "on my best behavior pose"
"Yes! Christmas is coming!"
Trevor is such a sweet little miracle! At 4 months, Trevor...- weighs 17 pounds 8 ounces (92nd percentile), is 27.3 inches tall (98th percentile), and has a head circumference of 16.8 inches (62nd percentile).
- wears 6 month old clothing and size 2 diapers.
- loves to smile and squeal.
- loves his big brother and sister.
- is a snuggler and wants to be held a lot.
- typically sleeps about a 6-8 hour chunk at night, but unfortunately, often doesn't start this until around midnight or 1am. Before that time, it is pretty tough to get him to stay asleep in his crib.
- gets his head and shoulders up really well when on his tummy for tummy time.
- learned how to roll back to front! (Video to follow).
- likes to bounce his bouncy seat and likes to push up on his legs to a stand when held in a supported stand.
- starting to try tripod sitting on his own and likes to sit up in a supported sit.
- still is not the biggest fan of his car seat.
- still has wiggly eye movements when he feeds or sucks on his pacifier (explanation below).
- likes his pacifier when he is tired, but otherwise wants to chew on his hands (likely teething, but nothing has popped through yet).
- is soothed by having his burp cloth snuggled up to his cheek or on his forehead covering one eye.
- likes to give Mommy gray hair...and pull out Mommy's hair, especially the ones on the back of the neck that hurt when he pulls them!
Trevor rolling over for the first time - I just happened to catch his first successful attempt on video!
Trevor has had some odd eye movements since birth that only occur with sucking. When he breastfeeds or sucks on his pacifier, his eyes deviate upward and wiggle back and forth. This could be nystagmus or ocular flutter. He was otherwise doing great, so this was not really an area for concern. He saw a peds eye doctor after his 2 month well baby exam, just to check his eyes for any problems. His eyes looked normal, but the eye doctor thought he was maybe a little behind on visual attentiveness for his age. The plan was to watch it for a few months and come back for more evaluation. However, 2 weeks ago, Trevor forced our hand a bit and earned himself a brain MRI. On Sunday, December 9, Trevor developed a persistent right head tilt. That evening, he had about an hour in which he was completely inconsolable and screaming at the top of his lungs no matter what I did. Then he fell asleep and we put him down in his crib. At about 1:45am, he awoke and seemed hungry, so I tried feeding him. He ate well, but as soon as I stood up to take him back to his room to sleep in his crib, he started vomiting profusely. He continued to vomit severely to the point of dry heaving until about 5am. He awoke again around 7am, ate a little bit, then vomited it all up again. He later held down 1 oz of breastmilk at around 9am and another 1.5 ounces at 11am. However, he didn't get to eat again after that until 7:30pm, so the poor kiddo was really dehydrated (down 1 lb compared to his well visit the next week). He seemed to be doing better on Monday morning. I headed out to round at the hospital, then came home for a bit before evening clinic. I decided to call Dr. Judy (my colleague and my kids' doctor) over the lunch hour to reassure me about Trevor. The signs he was having were suspicious for a neurologic problem or a mass or increase in pressure in the head. Dr. Judy recommended we scan his head, so off we went to Children's for a head MRI under anesthesia. He was intubated, put under general anesthesia, and had a head MRI. The MRI showed a perfect baby brain! Yay! He didn't vomit again after that and he got better throughout the week. The head tilt just disappeared the next Monday and he's totally back to his normal. So who knows what that was all about? Anyway, he had his 4 month well baby visit this past Thursday and he looks perfectly healthy. He's got follow up for his wiggly eyes in February, so we'll see if his eye movements have resolved by then.
My brave, hungry baby in his hospital gown, waiting to go for his scan.
The anesthesiologist taking Trevor off to get his IV and go under anesthesia for the scan. What a sweet baby! He did so well!
Trevor sat up on his own for a bit...he does a tripod kind of sit, but was upright for a bit all on his own!
He enjoys his tummy time more and more now.
This little guy is such a blessing in our lives and we are so lucky to be his family!
