Christmas Cookies!

We have been extremely busy these past weeks and, while the kids have been in holiday mode, counting down the days until Christmas, it has been hard for me to get into the holiday spirit. Christmas cookies do the trick!  Stay tuned for our cookie making insanity...

Unlike last year, we got some snow before Christmas this year.  The kids were very excited to get out and shovel the driveway and play in the yard.  We hadn't even gotten Sarah's new snowpants delivered in the mail yet, but she was able to squeeze into her 2T snowpants.

Austin made a nativity set at school out of wood blocks with felt characters on the front of each block.  Ever since he brought it home, the kids have been having lots of fun playing with it.  They will "play nativity" for quite a while and it is so cute to hear them make up stories or tell the nativity story in their own way.  Here is a video of Sarah narrating and demonstrating the nativity story with the block set.  So cute!

I've been playing around with making a "bokeh" for my camera lens to make the Christmas tree lights into shapes... (hearts and stars!)
When the kids got tired of being the subjects for my photography experimentation, I used the Elf on the Shelf to pose for me after the kids went to bed.

I worked this weekend, on rounds for our group, rounding in the newborn nurseries at hospitals around here and it was crazy busy!  Today, I finished rounds by noon and we were able to get over to Nanny and Grandpa's house this afternoon to make sugar cookies together.  We had a blast!
With Auntie Michelle and Uncle Brian.
My mom has a very powerful hand mixer and when Sarah was trying to help me start mixing the frosting, the powdered sugar splattered all over her face as she peeked in the bowl!
Licking the beaters is the best part!
The kids had fun frosting and decorating the cookies, though they definitely had to learn not to go so heavy on the sprinkles at times.
Trevor and Grandpa supervising.
Mommy mixing up some buttercream frosting.
Snuggle time with Auntie Michelle.

The resulting pile of cookies by the end was as tall as Sarah! We estimated about 21 dozen cookies!  Thtat's a LOT of cookies.
Cutest little reindeer ever!

We're excited for Christmas to come!  We hope you all have a wonderful holiday! As Sarah says, "It's almost baby Jesus's birthday!!"
