So...on to the grand tour! (photos first, then video)
First, the baby's room. Finishing the basement allowed us to move the guest room to the basement to have a bedroom upstairs for the baby. We moved the furniture around a couple months ago, but hadn't decorated the room yet. On Saturday, mom came over and we did a bit of nesting getting the baby's room ready.
Crib and dresser/changing table (same ones we used for Austin and Sarah).
We put up a cute Noah's ark needlepoint over the changing table that Nanny made when Sarah was born. We also have cute plush hanging pictures of the Pooh friends over the crib that match the bedding set, quilt, and rug. We put the decorations over the crib up with 3M Command hooks so that when baby gets big enough to reach up and pull on them, he won't get nails falling in his crib. You can also see the bookcase to the right on the edge of this photo.
Classic Pooh pictures in the corner with his rocking chair.
Then on to the basement...
This is a wood shelf that you see in the bend of the stairwell. Steve satined/finished this shelf himself...and was a bit obsessive about it. It has been done and then stripped and redone multiple times. He finally got it just how he wants it and it looks great.
The family room downstairs with the built in cabinetry and fireplace with mantle and tile surround. There is still another shelf to go in the middle area, but we have to determine how high we want the shelf based on how tall the TV is going to be in that space.
Fireplace with surround and mantle.
I LOVE the tile I found and we chose for the fireplace surround. It is a mosaic tile with different lengths, textures, and colors. There is clear glass tile, clouded glass, natural stone, etc. all combined into a warm but contemporary look that ties in our paint color, wood, and carpet. I think this is my favorite part of the basement, which is why I was so upset when the original cabinetry mess-up compromised this part of the fireplace surround.
The bay with sliding glass doors walkout and side windows.
The light cove. It looks a lot more impressive at night, but you can see how the light projects up onto the ceiling in the recessed ceiling with the crown moulding/trim around the bottom of the cove. Cool, huh? It makes it look like the soffits we had to have for the HVAC were on purpose.
The bathroom...
Here is the tile in the shower. This picture doesn't do the colors justice, but you can see the cool natural stone accent trim and the stone shelf.
Here you can see the custom vanity and linen closet.
The guest bedroom. It is actually a warm light brown color on the wall (same as our master bedroom), but it shows up different in this photo. I also don't have the duvet cover on the comforter yet, but we just got the bed and nightstands moved down to the room last night, so we'll get it all put together soon. This photo doesn't show much, but it is our empty (so far) exercise room. On this wall, we are going to mount a TV, and we put a pass through on the wall so we could put the cables from the TV through the wall into the storage room behind it, so we can have the Direct TV box, etc. there and not have to have the cords coming down from the wall mounted TV.
This is the nice cork wood floor we put down in the exercise room.
It is a bit hard to see from photos what the basement is really like (photos of empty rooms don't really show themselves well), so I took a quick video tour. Here are the baby's room and basement in a video tour...
(By the way, at the end of the baby's room, I know I say "dresser" when I meant "bookcase"...you get the idea.)
And an unrelated video...
When Nanny was joking around with the kids one day, she called Austin a "bobo". That is now a word the kids use to say you're being silly. You're being a "bobo". Well, apparently, we've now determined that the female version of "bobo" is "bobetta" (pronounced bow-bet-uh). So, with that background in mind, imagine how cute it was when we were on vacation at Bay Lake and Sarah turned to Nanny and said, "Excuse me...bobetta!" We cracked up, so of course, Sarah pulls that out now and then to be cute and entertaining. She said it again the other day when we were shopping for groceries and I got her to repeat it on camera. What a cutie!
