Reading Time

Austin and Sarah LOVE to read! So much that we often use losing a story at bedtime as a threat to get them to behave. We recently checked out a book called "Pinkalicious" at the library and both kids love it. Sarah has it memorized and likes to "read" it to us. It is just so cute how she not only gets the story almost perfect word for word, but she also adds some personality to it with tone and inflection as she reads. She even adds in comments (like how it was not nice of the little girl to misbehave and climb up a chair to get the cupcakes she wasn't supposed to eat). Too cute! I took a video the other night of Sarah "reading" to us.

Austin is now 5 1/2 (can't forget the 1/2) and has been reading fluently on his own since he was about 4 1/2. I am still amazed at how well he can just pick up a book and read it. He doesn't even stumble through it or sound out words, he just reads! He gets a word wrong here and there, but overall, it seems like he is WAY past where a typical preschooler or kindergartener should be. Heck, I think he even reads better than most 1st or 2nd graders I know. Anyway, I'm sorry to sound like bragging, I'm just really impressed by his reading ability. I took a video of him too...here he is reading a book we had gotten the day before at the library and had read maybe a couple times. It sounds a big choppy at times because he is reading not only the text of the story, but also the commentary in the word bubbles from the different characters in the illustrations.

I have always loved reading and I'm so glad my kids love it too!
