Adventures in Potty Land

Well Austin has shown some interest in the potty lately. We decided that we would encourage him to sit on the potty when he wanted to, but would not really try for potty training until we return from our trip to Texas. I figured taking a newly potty trained toddler on a plane would not be the best plan. Austin has shown some interest in sitting on the potty and we can get him to happily take his diaper off and sit on the potty while we read his potty book ("A Potty For Me"). He has never actually peed on the potty...

Tonight, we went about his normal bedtime routine. Bath time, then brush his teeth while he's wrapped up in his towel, then put on his overnight diaper, let him pick out his jammies, then go sit on the couch to put his jammies on, say goodnight to daddy, then go read stories with mommy before rocking for a few minutes, and getting into bed. Recently he's been really quite adorable and saying, "I love you too, mommy!" every time I say "I love you!" to him.

Anyway, we got to the picking out the jammies stage of the evening, when he ran off into our bathroom, picked up his potty, lugged it out of our room and into his room, plopped it down in front of his bookcase, took off his diaper, sat down, and started reading his books.

I got out the video camera because he was being very cute, happily sitting on his potty reading "Baby Beluga" and "Corduroy" to himself.
Check out this video...and stay tuned til the end (or skip to the end) for the truly laughable part.

Yes, when he stopped reading and looked down, I soon saw the spout shooting out of the potty and quickly set down the camera to redirect him, wishing that I had replaced the little pee shield thing right away when he knocked it off. He did get a little bit in the potty, and was praised and rewarded for it (but most of it went on the carpet). Luckily the book was spared. At least we know that potty training might not be that hard when we get back from our trip, since he already seems pretty interested.

Other fun and games...
It has finally been warm enough to go out and play (almost) every day!
He had to throw a coat on when the sun went under, but otherwise we have been enjoying being outside playing in the beautiful spring weather (temps in the 60s and even 70s!).

Austin thought it was a fun game to go up the sidewalk in his Cozy Coupe and then turn around to "chase" mommy. When he caught me, he got tickled!
"I'm gonna get you, mommy!"
Next post will likely be when we get back from Texas...
