Memorial Day Weekend

We headed up to the Twin Cities over Memorial Day Weekend to see some friends and to visit family now that my sister Michelle is home from college. Steve got to go check out Jon Byrer's apartment and play some Wii. The next day, we got to meet the newest edition to the Vnak family, Peter, and see how much Tom and Joe have grown. Austin had fun playing with the boys and it was great to see Katie and Brian again! We also got to go see Michelle's new apartment that she'll be moving into soon. A rousing game of dominos with the family followed on Sunday night and Steve and I lost almost every game, but had lots of fun with the hilarity that is my crazy family.

Here are pictures from some of the fun over the long weekend...

Grandpa left some cookies on the table and Austin grabbed them and started shoving them into his mouth double fisted. Yummy Keebler Fudge Stripes!

Michelle showed us her new apartment and we helped her inspect it before moving in. Since we were all making the drive up to her place, we figured we'd bring some of her stuff so she has to make fewer trips later when she moves in. Here is Austin helping her haul her stuff in...
The weather was nice on Saturday, then hot and muggy on Sunday before the big storms rolled through the area, then cold again on Monday. When the weather was nice, Austin got to eat his yogurt and graham cracker snack on the porch.

Austin had lots of fun playing with Auntie Keng!
And Uncle Kevin let him "drive" Grandpa's car...Austin even knew how to pick out the car key and put it in the ignition!

Austin also loves to put on big grown-up shoes and clod around in them. Here he is in mommy's shoes...

Austin is good about brushing his teeth most of the time at home, but he doesn't like to sit still long enough at nanny's house to get his teeth brushed. It helps if we have a second toothbrush for him to hold while I brush his teeth so he can "help." This time, he decided he wanted to brush my teeth while I was brushing his.
Tonight at dinner, he learned how to say "cheese." Now brushing his teeth is a little easier because I can get him to say "cheese" and reveal his front teeth in the process, making them much easier to brush!
Austin also recently discovered sidewalk chalk last week.

That's about all that's new since last week. I am now on my last week of my elective rotation. Next week I go back to working in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for the month. Luckily, we have 5 of us taking call next month, so I will only be on call every 5th night instead of every 4th. That should be a nice way to end the year. Then it's on to 2nd year of residency when our new interns arrive to take our place in the first year rotations.

Our next event is traveling to Notre Dame again for Scott and Kim's wedding! We're very excited, but hope that the trip goes a little smoother for Austin than the last one did.
