Austin turned 14 on November 9th!
At 14 years old, Austin:
- is in 8th grade, finishing up with his last year at his current school and looking forward to high school next year.
- has hit his growth spurt! He has his well child checkup delayed due to our family all getting COVID, but I'll update his measurements after that. (At his well child check up on 12/1, he was 66.5 in tall (71.7%ile), weighed 121.1 lbs (63.4%ile), and had BMI of 19.25 (51st percentile).
- is smart, funny, playful, happy, goofy, energetic, and sometimes a grouchy moody teenager.
- loves to read! With more free time during the pandemic, he is plowing through books faster than we can get them! He has the highest number of AR (Accelerated Reader) points in the whole school right now.
- plays the piano very well! He started only a couple years ago, but has really done quite well learning the piano. His teacher is now challenging him with developing new skills and trying out playing by ear and learning some more challenging pieces. It is really fun to listen to him practicing!
- plays the saxophone, kinda. He plays it well for school band, but never brings it home to practice.
- still loves to play soccer, though his season this year was very different due to the pandemic, with practices limited and only scrimmages with other teams in his club for games. Now his winter training and futsal has been shut down for a while with the new restrictions.
- plays traveling basketball in the winter. He got to play in a preseason jamboree and 2 tournaments before everything shut down. One of his teammates got COVID and spread it to Austin and at least 1 other teammate. Austin brought it home to us (at least we think it started with him) and we all got COVID. The team was shut down due to COVID cases on the team, but now all youth sports are shut down for the next month, so we'll see if he gets to play any more this season.
- loves to watch Notre Dame football and was particularly excited watching the Irish beat Clemson this year in overtime. What a game!
We had Nanny and Grandpa over for dinner for his birthday celebration instead our normal big family gathering. Austin didn't want to choose a birthday theme for his party/cake, so we just made him a colorful vanilla cake with buttercream frosting per his request.
