At 13 years old, Austin:
- is waiting for his growth spurt to arrive. He is 62.25 inches tall (58.5 percentile), weighs 103 pounds (53.9 percentile), and has a BMI of 18.69 (53 percentile).
- is bright and well liked at school. His teachers have glowing reports about him at conferences and he is getting all As in his classes.
- is enjoying learning to play piano. He has played for almost a year and a half and did an excellent job at his recent recital. He also plays saxophone in the school band, but never brings his saxophone home to practice, so we only hear him play at band concerts twice a year.
- plays soccer in the spring/summer as his favorite sport and has winter training and futsal in the off season as well as soccer camps throughout the summer.
- plays basketball in the winter and enjoys going to about 12 weekend tournaments a season with his team. He is not tall, but he is quick, handles the ball well, and is a great rebounder. He is playing a new position this year and enjoying it so far.
- loves to watch Notre Dame football and read about sports on ESPN. He is still a walking sports almanac and I have no idea how he remembers so many sports stats and facts!
- loves to read and is rocking the Maud Hart Lovelace books right now so he can vote for his favorite.
- rough houses with his little brother every day and makes his Mama worry they're going to seriously injure each other!
- likes to play board games with his sibs or hang out in their fort they built in the play room.
- loses things frequently (I think we're up to 3 winter coats he has lost, plus another customized soccer association jacket). Ugh! We're working on organization and keeping track of personal belongings.
- gives his Mama great hugs! (even in front of his friends! - not sure how long that will last, but I'll take it as long as I can get it).
- has those big dimples with his beautiful smile! (And braces may be coming soon...)
We had family over to celebrate his birthday and he didn't want any particular theme this year, so I made him a giant cupcake with trick candles on it.
