First, the week after Austin's birthday, we lost a beloved family member, Tom Robbins. He was a wonderful man and an important part of our family. We called him "Uncle Tommy." He worked with my Grandfather and he and his wife Mary were neighbors of my Grandparents before they moved to St. Joseph, MI, and then again in St. Joseph until my grandparents passed away. They have been like 2nd parents to my Dad and have always been another set of Grandparents for me. Tommy passed away the day after his 99th birthday. He celebrated his birthday with family the day before, slept next to his beloved wife, and passed away in the morning in her arms. His goal was to make it to his 99th birthday and his last words were, "I did it." What a way to go! He was a musician, with his own band years ago, and I remember him playing his trumpet at family gatherings and even calling us on the phone on our birthdays to play "Happy Birthday." He was a Veteran and had a military funeral with a trumpet player playing "Taps" for him. He was much loved by all and was always smiling and cheerful. I remember him lighting up and exclaiming, "Hello darlin'!" every time we came to visit and I'd give him a hug! Here's his obituary.
Here are the photo boards from his funeral.
Here are Tommy and Mary with the kiddos when we visited in 2015. The last visit we had with them this fall, we didn't catch a photo.
We were blessed to have Tommy in our lives!
Mary, at age 94, is still doing well and we are looking forward to having her with us for years to come!
