I've got some random photos from the fun we've been squeezing into life between lots of activities, school winding down, and everybody getting sick with coughs and colds again and again. Here's a smattering of what we've been up to this spring.
Back in April, we attended Family Fun Night at the kids' school. They got to shoot a fire hose and climb in the fire truck.
They also had lots of fun on the big inflatable slide, played some bingo, and won treats at the cake walk.
A video of some of the fun.
We've enjoyed walks to the park and Trevor even tried swinging on the big kid swings!
Grandpa took Austin golfing to learn how to caddy. He also cut down an old golf club of his so Austin could have a kid's size club. Austin has gone with Grandpa twice now and is very excited about it!
Grandpa teaching Austin how to hold the club and swing.
Treats at Cherry Berry!
Trevor, unfortunately got very sick last week. He got a cold from Austin and Sarah, but then woke up on Thursday morning having a very hard time breathing. He was coughing, wheezing, and was so short of breath, he couldn't complete a sentence. He was even asking for his "breathing medicine" even though he HATES it (I have an inhaler and an Aerochamber/Vortex chamber with which to give it to little ones like Trevor). He was so wiped out from working hard to breathe that he just laid on his blankie on the coffee table.
He has only ever wheezed once before (back in February and then he had 1 neb and 1 dose of inhaler and he was back to normal). This time, he was not getting better with the inhaler, so we went in to clinic to get a neb machine to bring home. He does a great job with the nebulizer, and he was better after a neb dose of albuterol. We brought the neb machine home and gave him nebs for the next day and half and he was back to breathing normally pretty quickly.
Here he is with his dragon mask on getting his medicine.
He was back to normal by the weekend and we spent the weekend at home working on getting him to sleep better. We have had months of very difficult sleep for Trevor and worsening sleep deprivation because of it. We made a plan and really went for it that weekend...and it worked. He had previously been having a really hard time with getting to sleep at night (up fussing and screaming until about 10:30-11pm most nights) and waking up screaming for about an hour in the middle of the night most nights. We moved bedtime earlier, played some white noise in his room, and worked hard on putting him back in bed consistently and calmly (despite him hitting us, throwing things at us, ripping the stitching on my shirt, and yelling "bad mommy!" at me). After 44 times putting him in bed Friday night (I guess technically Saturday AM) between 1:30am and 2:30am and then 31 times for nap time on Saturday, he went to bed pretty quickly and easily on Saturday night and every nap and bedtime since then. Victory! We moved bedtime earlier for all 3 kids since we were slowly getting overtired, sleep deprived kids and now we have 3 much happier, much more well rested kids! Yay! (and by extension happier and more well rested parents!)
We had fun running around at the park on Memorial Day.
Austin practiced his golf swing.
Trevor chased me...
Peeked over the curly slide.
And took a brief break from climbing the tunnel to smile at Mommy.
Sarah was very excited about wearing her stars and stripes dress for Memorial Day.
Other fun...
Trevor just randomly starts singing the Notre Dame Victory March these days. I guess that's what happens when you have 2 Domers for parents (and Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Grandparents, etc).
Trevor also learned a new phrase the other day...
He likes the series of books by Mo Willems that started with "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus". One of the books is "The Pigeon Won't Take a Bath" and after he and Daddy read it one night, he started saying to his big brother Austin, "P-U! Take a bath, dude!" HA!
Sarah had her last day of preschool today and is on to Kindergarten next year! Austin's last day of 2nd grade is next Wednesday and he just got really great scores back from his standardized testing in reading and math.
Sarah is coming to the end of her dance session and has her recital on June 13th. Both Austin and Sarah are having fun playing soccer this spring and summer and I'll be posting some photos of their soccer games in the next few weeks. They are both doing a great job and having lots of fun!
We also have a trip to see Gramma and PopPop coming up and hope that there isn't too much flooding still going on in Texas for our visit. Last year, it poured rain while we were there and flooded Dinosaur Valley the day we went to visit it. We're very excited to see our Texas family and the kids are counting down the days already!
