Sarah's 5th Birthday and Dance Recital!

Sarah turned 5 years old! I can't believe how time is flying!
At 5 years old, Sarah:
- is smart, sassy, smiley, and sweet!  (OK, I really didn't mean to pick all S words! Ha!)
- is wearing size 6 clothes and is still quite tall!
- is 46.3 inches tall (97th percentile), weighs 47.4 pounds (87th percentile), and has a BMI of 61st percentile.  She is continuing to grow tall and lean.
- is active and athletic. She is doing so well in swimming lessons that she was already in the "Middle 3" level at Foss (which is for 5-7 year olds) before she even turned 5. She's a little fish! She also enjoys her dance lessons each week and just had her recital this past weekend (see photos and video below)
- is loving preschool and making lots of friends!
- is a great reader!  She started reading months ago and can read K to 1st grade level books with ease and impressive fluency and prosody for her age.
- is interested in playing learning games like Homer on the iPad or watching TV shows like Sophia the First, Wild Kratts, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, and various princess movies.
- busts out in song all day long (usually when we're trying to get everyone settled in at the table to eat dinner). She sings dramatically, enthusiastically, and with vibrato.  The current favorite songs are the songs from the musical version of "Beauty and the Beast" that we have been listening to in the car in preparation for going to the musical in March.
- enjoys playing with her brothers and directing playtime to involve scenarios with princesses, tea parties, puppies, exotic animals, dinosaurs, etc.  She is known to dictate the dialogue during playtime, and Austin will play along and say the lines she has instructed his character to say.
- is a bit of a "girl that called wolf".  She fusses and cries if Trevor bugs her, if Austin isn't playing the way she wants, if one of her brothers takes a toy she wants to play with, etc.  We have stopped being able to tell if she is truly injured or just crying again for some random offense.
- if reprimanded for something or asked to do something, she often will stare at us wide-eyed and unblinking with her mouth hanging open and a completely blank expression on her face and just ignore that you ever said something to her.

Sarah chose a Frozen theme for her birthday party with family this year.  Her birthday fell on a Monday, so we had her birthday party a couple days before her actual birthday day.  First, she got to be the birthday girl at school on Friday (since Monday is a day off school for a teacher planning day). Then on Saturday, she had her normal dance class in the morning, followed by her birthday party, followed by her dance recital, then an evening at home with Nanny and Grandpa while Mommy and Daddy went to a work holiday party for a bit.  Her actual birthday day was a day at home with Daddy, Austin, and Trevor, then dinner out at Panera Bread (birthday girl's pick).

Birthday balloons!
My birthday girl at her party!

 Opening gifts!
Birthday cake time!
We made "ice" candy with a sugar melt recipe and ventured into the land of candy thermometers and boiling sugar.  With a shimmer food coloring spray and stencil, we got the #5 on the back of one of the "ice" pieces.  The characters are amidst a little flurry of snowflake sprinkles and Frozen themed candles finished it off.

After the party, we headed to Sarah's dance studio to enjoy her dance recital.  She did a wonderful job and it was so fun to watch her perform!

We didn't get the camera settings right to get great photos of her dancing, but with some editing, they at least are passable. They danced to "L.O.V.E".
Ready to start...
"L is for the way you look..."
"...at me."
"O is for the only one..."
"...I see."

So cute!!
Excited about the certificate and medal she got.
Reading her certificate.
With her proud Mommy and Daddy!

Other recent fun...
Trevor discovered his shadow the other day!
And he really enjoyed wearing Sarah's new hat and gloves around.

Austin had basketball on Sunday and his tournament is coming up in a couple of weeks. More to follow.
