Scott and Kim got
married this past Saturday at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at Notre Dame,
so I managed to arrange a weekend off and we headed to campus to partake in the
celebration.
I was on call overnight on Wednesday night, so I had to get out as early as possible on Thursday morning, run home, shower, and hop in the car. We were late for the wedding party dinner on Thursday night because we hit traffic in Chicago, but we managed to catch some of it by going straight to the dinner without stopping at the hotel to change.
The next day there was a welcome lunch, then Austin and I and nanny headed up
to St. Joseph, MI to visit grandma and grandpa, Aunt Kathy, and Tom and Mary
while Steve went to the wedding rehearsal to find out where the best man is supposed
to stand, etc. At grandma and grandpa's I took Austin swimming in their pool
and he absolutely loved it!
He met Kermit, too and even though the water
coming out was very cold, he had a
blast playing with the spraying water.
The wedding was on
Saturday at 9am at the Basilica. It was a beautiful wedding, and though Austin
was cranky because we woke him up early for the wedding, nanny was there to
take him out on the quad and entertain him, so I got to stay for the ceremony
without worrying about him.

Here are all the wedding guests on the steps of the golden dome after the
ceremony. Steve is down in front behind the groom with the wedding party and
I'm with Austin on the right side about halfway up. Many of our college band
friends were there, and it was fun to reconnect with people we haven't seen in
so long.
Steve was very handsome in his tuxedo! We tried
to get a picture of us with Austin, but Austin was too cranky for pictures. He
was happy about the bubbles that everybody blew as the bride and groom emerged
from the basilica though. Here are Steve and I after the ceremony.
The reception was held at the Oak Room atop South
Dining Hall on campus. Kim and the bridesmaids had decorated it beautifully.
Here are Scott (groom), Jon (head usher), and Steve (best man) at the
reception.
They were very smart to put crayons, paper, and coloring books on the table for the little kids. Austin LOVED coloring during the reception and it kept him occupied most of the time. I think his favorite thing to do, though, was to put the crayons in a coffee cup and then pour them out on the table again.
Eventually, Austin was
totally worn out and had a meltdown, so we headed back to the hotel.
He was so totally
wiped out from the busy day, that this is what he looked like on the ride back
to the hotel...
We stayed in a nice hotel suite and Austin had lots of fun running up and down
the halls and pushing elevator buttons at every opportunity.
We carpooled to South Bend with Jon and he was so sweet to bring Austin a
present - ninja panda! It was a favorite during the trip and Austin giggled
whenever we played peekaboo with the panda.
It ended up being a 9 hour drive each way and
Austin did very well on the drive. Here he is hanging out in his carseat,
coloring on his travel tray.
Unfortunately, the
very same weekend, Joey and Liz got married in Tennessee, so we weren't able to
attend their wedding. We were very sad to miss it, but we heard that it went
wonderfully and we are so happy for them!

Here are some other events and photos from the past few weeks...
Wendi and Jon came to Rochester for Hans and Rachel's wedding and we got to
meet their new little one, Isaac! Here is Austin meeting Isaac. He was quite
intrigued.
Playing peek-a-boo by peeking in and out of his
play tent.
Playing with his new rocket launcher toy in the
yard.
My little sweetie...
Austin loves going up and down the stairs, and he
is getting quite good at it. Now, if you ask him if he found an "Austin
sized step," he lays down on the step, snuggles in, and sucks his thumb.
Speed demon in the laundry basket!
"Let's go outside now, mommy!"
"Daddy is funny!"
Eating off of a plate like a big boy!
That's all for
now. I'm finishing up my last week of intern year this week! Yay! The new
intern class has arrived and I'm excited to meet them all. We're sad to say
goodbye to the 3rd year residents that graduated, but many of them will still
be around Mayo for fellowships so we'll still see them around. Next up for me
is the newborn nursery alternating with some research time. Second year will be
a much nicer schedule than intern year with much fewer 30 hour call nights. I'm
definitely looking forward to it.

Looks like Scott
and Kim's wedding was beautiful! We were sorry to miss it- Austin and Luke
would have had so much fun playing together! It seems like they share the same
energy level!
