It
was a beautiful day on Saturday and Austin begged us to go outside, so we went
to the park to play!
Austin had lots of fun swinging...
And playing on the slides!
He would get to the bottom and
turn around to try and climb back up.
He later climbed up to the
bigger slide and slid down all on his own (with daddy at the end to catch him,
of course!)
For the really curvy slide, he
went down with mommy or daddy.
He also got to try out the
tricycle that the Swanson boys gave him.
In
other news.....
Jenna
and Alexis came for a playdate! It was so much fun that I only got a chance to
take a couple pictures. Here's Jenna reading to Austin while Alexis supervises
with her new Snow White doll.
Our
sprinkles adventure...
We
put the sprinkle bottles in Austin's cupboard for him to play with because he
likes to run around with them and shake them around to make noise. Well, the
other day, he was holding the green sprinkles in the middle of the living room
and Steve saw Austin twisting off the cap (not sure when he figured out how to
do that!). He ran over and said, "Oh no no no." His sudden movement
startled Austin and Austin started crying and ran over to me. He eventually
stopped crying, but I decided to let him have some fun, so I opened the
sprinkles for him, put him in the kitchen so the sprinkles would not get deep
into the carpet, blocked the exit from the kitchen and let him make a mess! He
shook out a bunch of sprinkles and ran around the kitchen sprinkling green
everywhere. Here he is a picture of Austin playing with a pile of sprinkles he
made...
Austin
just learned how to go down the stairs on his own. He mastered the butt slide
method, but quickly moved on to stepping down while holding onto the rail. We
still have to be there to catch him, because he does still occasionally lose
his balance, but he is actually remarkably steady and doesn't need to be caught
very often. He is very proud of himself for this new skill...
Austin
now loves his book called "The Runaway Bunny". This is a book by the
author of "Goodnight Moon". The book has 2 black and white pages,
followed by 2 colored pages, then 2 more black and white, 2 more colored, etc.
The funniest thing is that now when we read this book to him, he sits patiently
as we read the text on the black and white illustrated pages (often sucking his
thumb), then whenever we get to a colored page, he pulls his thumb out of his
mouth, his face lights up, and he opens his mouth wide in a big surprised grin.
Here he is reading "The
Runaway Bunny" with nanny...
Austin loves to throw away his
own diapers!
That's
it for pictures. We otherwise have been doing pretty well. Steve is wrapping up
the busy season for work. He's been telecommuting for his accounting firm here
in Rochester, working from home when Austin is napping or when I'm home. I've
been back on the general pediatric hospital service and all of my on call
nights so far this month have been really busy and occasionally brutal. In 3
call nights, I have gotten a total of 1 hour of sleep, and that hour was
interrupted by being paged 4 times. I'm almost done with first year of
residency already, though. Time flies!
Austin is talking more now and loves to point at pictures in his words book. He says "baby" now, but it comes out more like "babu". He's very good at saying "cup" and it is still one of his favorite words. I'm very excited because one of his best words is "please". What a polite baby! If we get to the end of a book and he wants to read it again, he turns it back to the beginning and says "please" until we agree to read it again...and again and again. He also loves to grab my brush off the counter in my bathroom and brush his hair. He now helps wipe his face and hands after he eats and is now interested in helping brush his teeth too. Ah, he's getting so big and grown up!
